The EU imported 21% of its net oil imports (equal to 16% of consumption) and 41% of its gas imports (equal to 19% of consumption) from the CIS countries in 2001. At the same time, 53% of Russia's oil exports and 36% of its gas exports were delivered to the EU, and 45% of all Russian exports to the EU were energy products.
